HOW DO I SELECT A SAMPLE LOCATION?

Samples will be taken for any stream within Butler County. If you have a stream near you that you are curious or concerend about then you can select a sample from there. If you do not have a stream in mind, but would like to volunteer to colect samples then contact us and we will be more than happy to help you pick a location. It can also be good to look at the map showing where samples are currently collected.

You can select more than one location

It is best to sample every month to help us get a clearer picture of the water quality. Some of our volunteers can sometimes help collect your sample if you are away on vacation.

To help us maintain good credible data, we sometimes have more than 1 person collect from the same location. This helps us discover if we are having any problems. So, if you would like to sample from a location where a volunteer already collects just let us know.

Using a bridge sampler

These volunteers are using our bridge sampler that was created from a suet feeder for birds. This allows us to colelect samples from locations where it is too dangerous to get to the creek, or where we would not be able to collect from the main flow of a larger river or creek.
